OBJECTIVE: To create space whilst running by pushing off a defender. KEY FACTORS: Prepare to sidestep or swerve around an opposing player. Transfer the ball to the arm furthest from the tackler. While sidestepping or swerving, if the tackler comes within an arm's length, use an open hand to push the tackler away. COMMON ERRORS: Raising arm too early, therefore allowing tackler to drive underneath. Straight arm, as opposed to bent arm, pushing away on contact. Not focusing on target or contact zone on the defender.
