Portarlington Rugby Club held its 52nd Annual General Meeting on Thursday, May 22nd, 2025, with a strong turnout of members gathering to reflect on another successful year both on and off the pitch.
Club Chairman Paul Mannion opened the evening by expressing sincere gratitude to the many volunteers who keep the club thriving. In particular, he recognised the tireless efforts of the executive committee and extended committee members. He also acknowledged the work of the club’s many subcommittees — from finance and fundraising to facilities, book, strategy, and registration — as well as the dedication of coaches, managers, and parents involved across our 20 active teams.
Club Treasurer Paul Madden delivered a comprehensive financial report, highlighting that, for the first time in several years, the club reported a budget surplus. While operational costs continue to rise, Paul credited the club’s improved financial health to diligent financial management, relentless fundraising, and strong member engagement.
Secretary Darragh Brereton then took to the floor to spotlight key milestones achieved during the year. Highlights included the introduction of the club’s new ethos, “The Club is You”, the launch of our 50th anniversary commemorative book, and a series of successful fundraising events — including the now-legendary Mock Wedding, our annual Golf Scramble, and vibrant summer camps. Darragh also expressed thanks to our valued sponsors and introduced an outline of our "Vision 2030" club strategy.
Director of Rugby Barry Lambkin followed with an overview of the season’s on-field progress. Notable achievements included the impressive performances of the PortDara U14 and U16 teams and a steady rise in youth boys' rugby participation — a promising sign for the club’s future.
Finally, Club President Eddie Fitzpatrick closed the meeting with heartfelt words of pride in the club’s growth and enduring legacy.
With 11 of 12 officers returning for the 2025/26 season, the executive team remains strong. Special thanks were given to outgoing Media Officer Lisa Hainsworth for her years of outstanding service to the club.
Upcoming Club Events include 5th & 6th class Disco on Friday June 20th, Kids Summer Camp In August and our annual Golf Classic in September. Check out our website or social media pages for more information on these events.
