Portarlington Rugby Club Monthly Newsletter - September 2024
Dear Members and Friends of Portarlington Rugby Club,
As the season kicks into full gear, we're excited to welcome back all our players, from Minis to Seniors! It’s fantastic to see our pitches alive again with the sound of training and matches across all age groups. Here’s what’s been happening around the club this September.
Minis Rugby Returns
Our Minis Rugby program is back in action, with all age groups from U5 to U12 now training. We’re thrilled to see so many familiar and new faces, and as always, we are open to welcoming new players. If you know anyone interested in joining, it’s never too late to come along and get involved!
Youth Teams in Full Swing
All of our Youth teams are back to training, and matches in their respective leagues are underway. It’s been great to see the enthusiasm from our young players as they continue to develop their skills and teamwork.
Senior Teams Update
Our Senior Men's team played their first league game against Garda on September 22nd. Unfortunately, it didn’t go our way as we missed out on many scoring opportunities and lost 12-21. The Senior Women’s team had a tough battle in their first league game on September 29th. After leading the whole game, they narrowly lost with a score of 22-26. Both teams are more determined than ever to come back stronger in their upcoming matches.
The Senior Men also revealed their brand new jerseys for the season, proudly sponsored by our platinum partner, PMEP. The jerseys look fantastic, and we’re incredibly grateful to PMEP for their ongoing support of the club.
Club Development News
We are thrilled to announce that we’ve received funding from the Sports Capital Grant for LED floodlights for our first pitch. This is a crucial step in the continued development of our club and facilities, allowing us to extend training and match times, particularly through the winter months.
New CCRO Appointments
We are delighted to welcome Lisa Hainsworth and Adam Lambkin as our new CCROs for the season. Congratulations to both! We know they will bring great energy and passion to their roles, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact they’ll make across all levels of the club.
Clubhouse Renovations
Our clubhouse has had a bit of a facelift and is now fully up and running after some recent renovations. It’s looking fantastic, and we can’t wait to host more match days and social events in the future. A big thank you to everyone involved in the project.
We are now taking bookings from members for private functions. Contact: events@portarlingtonrugby.com
Annual Golf Classic Success
Last but certainly not least, we want to extend our gratitude to everyone who contributed to making this year’s Annual Golf Classic such a tremendous success. Special thanks go to the committee members for their hard work and dedication in organising the event. It was a brilliant day and a great fundraiser for the club.
Upcoming Fundraiser: ‘Your Club, Your Country’
We’re excited to announce that we’ll soon be launching our ‘Your Club, Your Country’ fundraiser! The funds raised will go directly toward covering the remaining fees for the installation of our new LED floodlights for the first pitch. This is an essential project for the club, and we appreciate all the support we can get from our community to help make it a success. Stay tuned for more details!
As we look ahead to October, we’re excited about what’s to come and look forward to more matches, camaraderie, and continued progress both on and off the pitch.
Thank you all for your continued support of Portarlington Rugby Club.
Yours Truly,
The Executive Committee
