The Royal College of Surgeons paid their first ever visit to Lea Road on Sunday as the home side aimed to continue their strong start to the league

Port started strongly and the continuous pressure drew rewards as they took a 7-0 lead after 6 minutes, the lead was extended on 10 minutes as the home side went over in the corner with the conversion hitting the post the lead was 12-0. The RCSI got on the scoreboard after 22 minutes with a penalty as Port were reduced to 14 men following a high tackle. Despite the numerical disadvantage it was the Portarlington men who reacted best and a sweeping passing move resulted in a well worked try in the corner which was converted from the sideline for a 19-3 lead. It was the surgeons who struck back with the next score as they took advantage of the extra man and ran in a well worked try. Just before half time the best move of the day move the balled through the back line with a killer final line cutting back in for a score under the posts which was converted for a 26-8 half time lead.

The Port forwards were starting to make some gains in the scrum and following a turnover in the middle of the pitch they ran a try in on the far side of the pitch to take a 31-8 lead. RCSI struck back next as they put together a few phases of play for their backs to run in a try which was unconverted, this try heralded a period of pressure for the away side which was matched by great defence from Port. It was another 15 minutes before the scoreboard moved again and it was the home side that went over following a well worked lineout move, and a strong try line defence, the ball was moved out wide for a try for a 36-13 lead. The game stayed like this until the final whistle beckoned when a handling error from the visitors was pounced on by the Portarlington backs to score a converted tries. With the clock in injury time the home side scored an sealing try from 1st phase lineout and the final score finished 50-13.
