Match Report:
Saturday 18th November Portarlington vs Navan
Venue: Navan RFC
Kick Off 2:00pm
Weather- Sunny Autumn Afternoon – Chill in the air
Score: Portarlington 27 Navan 14

The under14 Girls team played away this weekend against Navan .
Portarlington as the visiting team kicked off to a strong and well-drilled Navan. Navan took the ball on through some quick hand and solid passing. They got to ball to one of the strongest attacking runners we have seen in this age group who wasn’t stopped and broke tackle after tackle to get into open space and made the try line quickly followed by a well taken conversion followed.

The Port Girls were in shock and their normally solid defense was found wanting within the first minute. The game was on ….
Little did we know at the time but Navan’s tide had just gone out and the Port Girls went to work. Although a really hard worked game with brilliant rucking and attacking runs by both teams ,the Portarlington teams heads never dropped. Their defense never failed again in the first half. The girls ran in 3 tries in the first half with one conversion.
Half time Score 17 -7

The second half started off with the same intensity and determination as the first finished. The Portarlington team returned the favor from the kick of to Navan by working a try from the kick off .
Navan had most of the position in the second half and worked their back line well with well-drilled and organised moves. Portarlington’s defense held fast and didn’t allow Navan to score for 25 minuets of the second half. Navan did cross the line on a number of occasions only to be held up.

The Port Girls showed some clever thinking with well-timed kicks to relieve the building pressure and put Navan on the backfoot. The Port Girls kept working hard, tacking hard, smart running lines and making line breaks finally to break the Navan defense resulting in a second try of the half.

The last play of the game resulted in a try for Navan who used all their power and determination to get in the corner for a try and the kick was converted.

The final score 27 – 14
