Cold morning trip to Wicklow to face and well drilled and composed team inWicklow RFC
The Portarlington squad was well dimished due to some doing entrance exams, with only 10 traveling to face a strong and well prepared Wicklow squad of 21 .

The Port girls came out of the blocks quickly and were unluckily not to get in for a try in the first few phases of play . The Wicklow team soaked up the pressure and took advantage of some openings in the Port defence to take strong control in the first half . The training park drills could be easily seen to be working for them and pulls the defence wide at every opportunity.
The first half was well and truly Wicklow's but this did not knock the resolve of the Port girls
Tackle after tackle ruck after ruck the Ports Girls fought and fought and kept there belief .

The second half was a different story - Wicklow had a full squad to use and as the Port numbers were low we saw the true grit and determination shine through . The girls showed true flare and good decision making in the second half to run in 3 tries and convert one. One girl made a 70 meter run after a Wicklow girl to save what looked to be a certain try showing the never give up attitude of true rugby players.

The 10 Port girls played with all there heart in what was a great game of rugby against of skillful Wicklow Team (you could say they played 2 teams as the used 9 subs throughout the game)

Final Score Wicklow 36 - Portarlington 17

A huge thank to the parents Wicklow RFC who provided soups, sandwiches and goodies for the visiting players and parents after the match showing the true spirit of Rugby.
