Portarlington vs Athy Saturday 25th November

Always a pleasure to visit Athy RFC

Match Report:
Saturday 25th November Portarlington vs Athy
Venue: Athy RFC
Kick Off 11:30am
Weather- Cold Sunny Autumn Afternoon –
Score: Portarlington 36 Athy 20 (Friendly)

The under14 Girls team played away again this weekend against Athy .
Portarlington were low on numbers so Athy shared 3 players to make 10 aside.

From the kick off the Port girls took the ball on and took control very quickly to ran in an early try. The Athy girls were in shock and returned to the half way to kick off again with a renewed sense of determination and this determination held fast to keep the Port girls out for a considerable time. Finding gaps and strong running wore the Athy defense down with the Portarlington Girls running in a brace of tries of the middle of the first half. Athy recovered their composure and showed true grit with powerful rucking and straight-line aggression to power in a try. Portarlington took the ball on from the kick off passing through 3 sets of hand and crossed the line again. Athy finished the half off with a well work scrm half try off the back of a scrum on the port 22 – Although disappointing for Port, it was a beautiful try, Peter Stringer would have been proud off.
First half finished Port 29 Athy 10 .

Athy came out of the traps with one thing in mind and made the intensions known by working 2 great try in the first 10 mins. of second half. Portarlington took some time to regroup before they put together a pitch wide passing phase to score what was the last score of the second half.

Both teams showed some pure determination and physical fitness to play the full pitch with only 10 aside. It is always a pleasure to visit Athy as both the Team and coaches have a very warm welcome. We look forward to another great match on 20th Jan in the 4th round of the Premier League.

The final score Portarlington 36 – Athy 20
