PortDara 18s complete big win against Arklow

Cormac Smith

Unbeaten season continues in Silken Thomas Park

This was unfortunately a very one sided affair from the off but the girls can only play what is front of them. Arklow were down two in numbers from the start so the game was played 13-a-side which left plenty of room on the pitch for expansive rugby. The scoring started in the 2nd minute when Amy Rushden got the first try of the game after a tap-and-go penalty from Blathnaid Smith. Mairead Scully added the extra points. Nine minutes later Blaihnaid got the 2nd try of the game after Orla McDonald made the space from the base of the scrum on the blind side. Two minutes later the Murtagh girls combined with Saoirse doing the hard work breaking the line to leave the easiest of scores for older sister Eadaoin. In the 20th minute Orla McDonald turned over the ball in her own half, made ground towards the Arklow 22 before passing to Aoife Thompson who released speedy winger Kiela Moore to score her first try. Two minutes later Aoife and Kiela combined again but this time Kiela was tackled short of the line but popped the ball to Aoife who had tracked the play to score in the corner. In the 25th minute 10 and 12 combined beautifully when Amy Rushden kicked through for Eadaoin Murtagh who danced around the defence to score under the posts, Amy got the conversion. The last score of the half came from replacement backrow Sarah Delaney as she picked from the base of the scrum to score in the corner.
Half-time: PortDara 41 Arklow 0
Arklow started the second half much better with their forwards making great yards with ball in hand and were unlucky not to be rewarded. Second half substitute Hannah Wilson made her presence felt with three tries in the 1st, 6th and 18th minute which sandwiched an excellent second score from Kiela Moore
Full-time: PortDara 63 Arklow 0
Next weekend the girls travel to Tullow for their third league game and will expect a much tougher test.
