The league leaders visited Beechpark but the Falcons come up short in a very competitive game

The Falcons took on Barnhall Sunday 12th January at home in Cill Dara, Barnhall are currently top of the League having a 100% win rate this Season. Barnhall got off the mark with an unconverted try not too long after kick off. The Falcons kicked back with some classy ball through the hands to get the ball out to winger Louise Scully who weaved in and out of players to score a try under the posts. This try was comfortably converted by No 10 Hannah Mulcahy. This now saw the Falcons in the lead. However this didn’t last too long when Barnhall used their strength and pace to drive through the defence to get over the line again for another unconverted try. The Falcons were now 3 points behind.

Barnhall continued their efforts to get over the line one more time before the end of the first half, this time they managed to convert. The Falcons dug deep again to get ball back into Barnhalls danger zone and were awarded a penalty not too far out. The Falcons took the decision to take a penalty kick and this was nicely put between the sticks by Muireann Scully. Score now going into half time was 17-10 in Barnhalls favour.

The 2nd half saw the Falcons make some good plays and narrowly missed out on another try by Yvonne O'Neill with a foot in touch having managed to get over the try line. Barnhall reacted with another try from some very strong play. The Falcons showed huge determination to continue to close the gap but were unfortunate not to capitalise on a penalty deep into the 2nd half. A couple of injuries from big hits were taking its toll which saw the Falcons drop numbers on the field. Barnhalls indiscipline in the second half saw 2 yellow cards issued to them for high tackles however another try followed. The final score ended 29-10.

The Falcons remain in 3rd place in the League with Barnhall topping the table. The Falcons take on Mullingar away next weekend while they continue their efforts to get promoted. So it’s all still to play for.
