The U14s travelled to Portlaoise for their weekend fixture, facing wet and cold conditions that made handling difficult. Both teams started energetically, settling into the game with strong intent.
Portarlington set up well and worked hard to manage the slippery ball, but Portlaoise dominated much of the first half, capitalising on loose and breaking ball to breach the Portarlington defence.
The second half saw a much-improved Portarlington performance, full of energy and conviction. With renewed determination, they attacked with purpose and were rewarded with four excellent tries — Tom Coen crossing twice, Thoma McGrath adding another, and Mark Finlay finishing strongly for the fourth.
This surge of momentum lifted the team, showing their ability to respond under pressure. There were many standout performances across the field, with players showing real commitment despite the challenging conditions.
Man of the Match went to Sean Fitzpatrick, who put in a tremendous performance through his relentless work rate and impact around the pitch.

A big thank you to Portlaoise RFC for their warm hospitality — the tea and sandwiches were very much appreciated by players and parents alike on a wet, cold afternoon.
