U14 Boys Rugby Report

Acknowledgement
A special word of thanks to Lozzi and Anna for their prompt and caring assistance with Coolmine's injured player. Your help on the day was truly appreciated — a wonderful example of the spirit and sportsmanship that makes Portarlington Rugby great.

Port took full advantage of a break in the rain as they travelled to Coolmine for Round 4 of their League Campaign, and what a performance they produced.
Coolmine kicked off but Port took the game right back to them with a perfect catch and ruck set up. After three phases of possession over three minutes, Tom Coen (VC) took hold of the ball and drove through three defenders from the Coolmine 22m, powering over the goal line for the opening try of the game.
Port settled quickly and within five minutes, Bradley Cooper received textbook backline ball to advance down the left wing, evading two Coolmine defenders to cross for his first try of the game. Cooper stepped up to add the conversion, bringing Port to a commanding 12-0 lead.
The momentum continued to build as Luca Hynes made his second run at Coolmine's defence, pumping along the right wing and heading for the posts before touching down for a superb try. Cooper, on fire with the boot, added the extras to leave Port leading 19-0.
With the forwards now gaining the upper hand in lineouts and scrums, Jack McDonald showed true character and a keen eye as he intercepted a Coolmine pass — and he made it count. His sheer power and determination carried him 30 metres with Coolmine's defence in pursuit, as he crossed over for a great try. Cooper added the conversion to make it 26-0.
Coolmine pressed forward for a period and advanced into Port's 22, looking like they might threaten — but Port's defence held strong across both backs and forwards. The final say in the game went to Bradley Cooper, who received a turnover ball won by Tom Coen and Jack McDonald from a Coolmine lineout. With superb support runs from Mark Finlay and Charlie Merriman, Cooper looped in to run over for his second try and duly added the conversion himself.
A final score of 33-0 to Portarlington.
The game came to an end just before the half time whistle following an injury on the Coolmine side. A thoroughly deserved and dominant victory, with all the hard work in training evident in the improved passing, sharper tackling, and better overall positioning throughout.
